This program will be conducted in the home setting and will comprise of a family meeting that will occur as often as the family needs or as recommended by the BCBA. During family meetings, real-life scenarios can be discussed, examples of how to engage clients will be demonstrated, and role-play of situations if needed. Some of the training may involve how to start a conversation or how to be a good sport while playing a sport/game or how to handle an argument. Parents are taught how to assist their children in making and keeping friends. The purpose of this program is to empower families to feel confident when they are parenting their child and for siblings to have strong relationships with the client. The client diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder progresses more in therapy with the support of his/her family.
This program also emphasizes an individual with ASD to interact with other autistic individuals in the community.
The Embrace program is inspired from Caliber’s belief which is “Individuals on the Autism Spectrum exhibit different abilities and each ability is special.” These unique abilities must be harnessed to make them socially productive by our program.
Furthermore, our team understands that “it takes a village to raise a child.” This famous phrase can be explained as an entire community of people who must interact with children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. In this perspective, the family and community are the village and child are the individual on the Autism spectrum disorder.
